About Clarendon Park yoga class

Yoga is for any ability, whether you are a beginner or have practiced regularly Kay will guide you through  sessions at your own pace and help you to get the most out of your yoga practice.

With 25 years of her own personal yoga practice Kay qualified as a yoga teacher  in 2009. Her sessions have an interest in functional movement, that is utilising yoga to increase our strength and everyday mobility using flows of postures,  somatic movement,  yin and yang versions of postures, stillness, breath, meditation and deep rest.

She continues to undertaken further training  and has studied regularly with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, deepening knowledge & practice of yoga for women’s health, in the form of womb yoga and  Yoga Nidra, studied with with Bernie Clarke for a teacher training in Yin Yoga, a pranayama intensive with Phillip Xerri and has trained as a mindfulness teacher with Mindfulness CIC.  Kay has also studied with several teachers of the Scaravelli approach to yoga and of Feldenkrais and Hanna Somatics.

Kay has a clear understanding of anatomy, physiology & psychology, having studied modern biology & psychology at degree level.  She has taken post graduate anatomy and physiology studies with Gary Carter, which aids her to help her students understand the benefits of postures & breathing techniques, she is keen to help students find their own way with postures, to find release in postures & begin to unwind the years of tensions many of us can find ourselves with.

With a passion for the therapeutic use of yoga for children, young people & adults with special needs Kay spends a large portion of her week using yoga to work with children with a variety of disabilities/complex health needs and neurological and developmental challenges. She has also run weekly sessions in a alcohol and drug rehabilitation centre and has run group sessions for mothers with post natal depression.  Kay is keen to work to make yoga accessible to all.

As a mindfulness teacher & regular meditator mindfulness practice  & techniques are threaded throughout her yoga classes, as well as teaching mindfulness practices and meditation on a one-to-one basis and in schools, businesses and organisations.

Flexibility, strength and balance are more obvious benefit of hatha yoga practice,  however yoga encourages a deeper connection & knowledge of ourselves and the world around us, bringing about a calmer and more peaceful mind.

Yoga is a life long journey, its most definitely not just for the flexible, its for anyone who wants to encourage a healthier expression of movement within our spine and body, and promotes a deeper connection with what is going on in our bodies, minds and the whole of life.
