The Samye Centre was founded by Katie Greenfield to introduce the benefits of yoga practices and rituals to women, mothers, babies, toddlers and children in the community.

We teach small, bespoke classes, giving lots of individual attention, and are qualified in teaching adult yoga, postnatal yoga, baby yoga, toddler yoga & children’s yoga (including yoga for children with special needs). This year, we will begin offering yoga to help women through the perimenopause and menopause. We believe in working together in the community, and across generations to support women’s & children’s health.

Yoga for babies, toddlers & children…

Katie teaches classes in partnership with Hawtonville & Balderton Sure Start Children’s Centre in Newark, Nottinghamshire. Sure Start Children’s Centre services are designed especially for mums and dads expecting a baby or those with a child or children under 5 years of age.  The centres are safe, welcoming places for you and your family.

A Birthlight-qualified Baby Yoga instructor, Katie runs Baby Yoga and Toddler Yoga classes for babies & toddlers from 10 weeks old to 2.5 years old.

Katie trained with Calm for Kids and runs Children’s Yoga classes for children aged 2.5 – 4.5 years as well as teaching in local nurseries and schools.

Katie has completed training at the Special Yoga Foundation in London to offer Yoga for Children with Special Needs. She runs small group and 1:1 sessions. The venue at Hawtonville & Balderton Children’s Centre has wheelchair access.

Yoga for mums…

Katie runs regular yoga & relaxation workshops for local charity Home-Start Newark to help support mothers suffering from postnatal depression, and teaches on Wellbeing courses run for mums by Hawtonville & Balderton Children’s Centre.

She also runs a weekly, mums-only Postnatal Yoga Class and offers 1:1 Postnatal Yoga to new mums to help support them during the first 28 Days after birth.

In 2014 Katie launched the Women’s Yoga Support Group, a secret Facebook Group containing articles, audios and videos of Women’s Yoga Practices, and hosting Q&As with local experts, to provide support for women attending classes.

In 2016 Katie launched a Friday night Women’s Yoga for Wellbeing & Stress Reduction class, for those who want to move into a general Hatha Yoga practice, but need to continue practicing deep yogic relaxation (Yoga Nidra). 2017 saw the launch of a final new class: Yoga for Hormonal Health, the Perimenopause & Menopause, to support women through the next stage of their journey.
