Join Dee for a 4 week beginners course to get you started this February.
This course is designed to cover the basics, taking key parts of the physical practice in turn. Anyone is welcome to join us – whether you’ve never stepped on a mat before or you’re a seasoned practitioner. We’ll take our time breaking things down and getting familiar with some keys asana (poses) and pranayama (breath) to build your confidence on the mat.
Each week will have a different focus to give us time to explore the key elements of yoga. We’ll build a sequence over the 4 weeks that you feel comfortable and confident in. Dee will also be posting on Instagram during the course to introduce you to the history and philosophy of yoga in more detail and to answer any big questions that come up during the sessions.
week three – twists and backbends
Backbends are an excellent way to counter the forward folds that we take. They are an opportunity to work on frequently neglected muscles. If you work in an office, twists and backbends offer an opportunity to start to build strength to combat the hours sat at a desk.
Both types of movement allow us to work on the mobility and strength of the muscles that supports our spine.
We’ll build on our sequence to include twists and backbends and see how gravity affects our movement when we stand, sit or lie in these shapes. We’ll observe how these movements change our breath and find safe ways to use these movements to reduce lower back pain and stay relaxed in these shapes.
