Women’s yoga is a space where women can gather, drink tea, move mindfully, relax, share their thoughts and “drop their bundles”. The 90 minute session will include 75 minutes of yoga to support the female form and spirit, relaxation, breathing techniques for calm and rest, and mindfulness. The final 15 minutes will be dedicated to drinking tea, talking and sharing nibbles such as dried fruit and organic chocolate (I will provide that, there’s no need to bring anything but yourself!)
All women and women-in-the-making are welcome to this class, including teenagers, pregnant women, post-natal women and post-menopausal women. I am trained in pregnancy yoga (I am 5 months pregnant in the pictures above!), and I found that my yoga practice over the years helped the birth of my daughter to be smooth and peaceful. Post-natally, my yoga practice was profoundly restorative, helped me to get to know my new body and to recover physically from the birth. Now my daughter climbs on me while I am doing my practice in the living room, so it has evolved yet again (more weight-bearing)!
The movements in a women’s yoga class include more flowing, circular, spiralling movements associated with the creativity of the female body, more focus on opening and strengthening the hips and improving neuromuscular connection to the pelvic floor area.
Being in a group exclusively with women can be more conducive to being able to share what is going on for you and to relax and enjoy playing with the movements of yoga. Yoga is about more than the physical body; this female environment is intended to foster a sense of community and sisterhood. It’s a drop-in session so you are welcome to come and give it a try any time.
Classes begin on the 12th November 2017 at the Yogaden, 110 Moorland Rd., Weston-super-Mare BS23. See classes page for more details about booking your class.
