Traditionally, the physical practice of yoga was intended to prepare the body for meditation. Yin yoga is ideal for this purpose, as the long, passive poses allow time to release tension and calm your mind ready for a sitting practice. It also gives you the chance to practice being present and mindful; key elements of meditation; focusing on the breath and bringing your attention to what is happening in the body.
I have therefore designed these sessions to be used in one of two ways: As standalone classes allowing you to stretch, release & recharge your batteries for the weekend ahead; or as preparation for a mindfulness or meditation practice. This practice may be your own, or you might choose to join the session with Swansea Meditation that follows straight afterwards.
These informal drop-in classes last one hour, are held every week, and cost just £5. Swansea Meditation holds a Buddhist meditation session afterwards from 11:00 – 13:00, which is contribution cost only.
About the teacher: My name is Victoria Ucele, and my yoga classes are for anyone and everyone, particularly those who want to step out of their stressful lives, slow down and focus. I teach functional rather than aesthetic yoga, encouraging you to focus on what you feel in your body rather than the shapes you are making. I look at everyone as individuals with distinct bodies and minds, and help you adapt your practice so it is uniquely yours.
