All levels are welcome. I teach postures in stages in the general class so everyone can work at a level that suits them as an individual. I offer modifications and progressions so you can choose the right challenges for you. Always go at your own pace, if something doesn't feel right it's fine to leave it out. The main thing is to enjoy the class and have fun. The only requirement in yoga is to simply show up with a willingness and curiosity to explore and uncover its many gifts. Yoga will meet you wherever you are.
In general, each class is structured to offer an all round holistic body and mind work out using physical postures, breathing exercises and relaxation. Classes aim to develop flexibility and strength in equal measures with an emphasis on developing weaker areas of the body to strengthen and bring balance to the body and mind easing aches, pains and reducing risk of injury. I also include some sequences which develop all over body conditioning and toning and improve strength and stamina whilst developing flexibility keeping the body fit, toned, healthy and strong. Classes also promote bodily awareness, concentration and focus as well as reducing stress, improving concentration and sleep.
The benefits of practicing yoga are many. On a physical level, a practitioner develops body awareness, flexibility, strength & stamina keeping the body fit, toned, healthy & strong. Yoga promotes cardiovascular fitness & blood circulation & assists in regulating hormone levels. It tones the muscles & internal organs & stimulates the skin cells resulting in firmer, healthier skin. Breathing techniques & relaxation help eliminate body toxins, lower blood pressure & increase lung capacity resulting in higher oxygenation of the brain with a resultant improvement in concentration & memory & a reduction in stress & anxiety. On a mental level, Yoga calms the mind, bringing emotional balance, clarity & focus. On a deeper level, Yoga assists us in developing an inner awareness, stabilising the mind and uplifting the spirit. It will help you regulate sleep, elevate your mood & offer you improved health & greater happiness.
