About Yoga with Julee

I teach alignment based Hatha yoga and Vinyasa yoga. The style I teach has strong roots in Prana Vinyasa Yoga, Jivamukti Yoga and Anusara Yoga. I also draw inspiration from other schools of yoga practice, where needed, to adapt to different requirements.

For beginners, I usually teach an alignment orientated practice, taking time to learn and feel the alignment of the body in different yoga poses. So each pose will be held for a few breaths. The focus is more on learning postures and learning how to stack joints and feel muscles, to find more freedom in the shapes.

For the experienced, I offer a more complex transitions, poses or flows. Poses are more dynamic, with some challenging poses to drive our comfortable edge forward. There is also the more subtle reaches of the practice; feeling the energetics of these shapes or movements. This is nothing ”new age” or ”out there”, it is in the intelligence of our body. We feel these things instinctively when we start to pay more and more attention to our body.

For the more senior students who are over 60 and not usually physically active, or new to the practice, our focus will be on maintaining joint and muscle health. Our work will also be physical but in a different way. Poses are never held for too long and movements are repetative. It is not about slowing down but keeping strong and active.
