About Spanda Yoga

My name is Giselle Douglas-Morris, I was born in Venezuela and came to England twenty five years ago.  My first teacher was my grandmother who taught me to salute the Sun every morning and before sunset every afternoon. My grandmother did not know what we were doing was “Yoga”, but nevertheless, her teachings have always stayed with me.

My classes are a combination of Intelligent Sequence (Vinyasa Krama) with more steady poses.  Pranayama is essential in my classes because the breath has a deeper Physiological, Psychological and Energetic effect than Asana practice. Normally a specific theme is weaved into each class and I use Mantras, Mudras, Chanting and Kriya (active meditation) practices.  The classes can be dynamic or calmer depending of what I feel are the needs of my students on a particular day. Time of day, Moon cycle, Season, Climate…these are all factors taken into consideration when I teach a class.

I offer regular group, corporate and private classes in West London. Most of my public classes take place at triyoga Ealing.

I am offering two retreats this year:
HEART OPENING RETREAT, 26th – 30th June 2019, Chia Retreats, Portugal

There is so much grief, anger, confusion and stress nowadays; in order to live with the greatest freedom and to enjoy the highest fortune we must learn how to enter the domain of our heart. It is our heart that lights the path to healing, it is in our hearts where we can connect to our true wisdom. When we learn how to listen to that inner wisdom, we then plant the seeds for worldly success. On this nourishing retreat, we will work on removing the veils that obscure our inner light.

We will have yoga sessions twice daily, one slow morning flow followed by Pranayama and a guided meditation, and a restorative/yoga Nidra in the evenings. The surroundings of Chia Retreats are exceptionally special, and we will have plenty of opportunities to go on nurturing walks as well as having “me time” to relax by either of the pools. To those who would like to explore their creativity, on offer is an optional evening painting class. We will express ourselves joyfully and most importantly, have fun.

FIVE ELEMENTS RETREAT, 19th – 26th October 2019, Suryalila, Southern Spain

Explore, embrace and connect to the five elements. I have found some very helpful tools throughout my twenty-five years of yoga practice. One of my favourites is the methodical, systematic and constant approach to the five elements: Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Ether.

Each one of these elements forms a part of ourselves. They are in us and we can indeed learn to use their innate wisdom and qualities for the fulfilment of our goals and desires. Learning to work with them through the breath, through movement, through the connection with the chakras, through visualisations and active meditations is an art.

In this beautiful yoga retreat centre located in the stunning country side of Andalucía, we will have the opportunity to fully embrace a practice twice a day. In the mornings we will find the stillness of the earth, we will flow with the wind and the waters, we will connect to the fiery sun that shines strongly even in October, and we will find spaciousness within. Each day will be dedicated to one element and on the final day the integration of them all. In the evenings we will have restorative practices and Yoga Nidra. The most nourishing gift we can give to our nervous system. Yoga Nidra reduces stress and improves health.
