Ivana Demmel: Sunday evening Yoga & Medidtation Course:

The course is designed to help you establish your own regular meditation practice. It’s perfect for those who already practise yoga and would like to deepen their practice and work more with the mind. But also suitable for beginners in yoga who are maybe curious about meditation but have never tried it.

The practice is slow and flowing, open to any level of ability. We are fosed on exploring body awareness in yoga postures rather than achieving difficult, impressive looking postures.

We will be exploring meditation slowly, one step at the time – working more with movement at first and gradually extending the sitting meditation part as you grow more and more comfortable with sitting still and using the techniques.

Each week we will explore a different meditation technique that you can practise daily until the next week. The practices are aimed at improving focus and mental agility, but also developing patience and emotional resilience.

Topics:

Week 1: Following the breath
focusing on the movement of the breath and the sensation of breathing, learning how to switch the mind to observer/witness mode

Week 2: Moving mind through the body
improving focus and bodily awareness, learning to bring and move awareness through different parts of the body

Week 3: Relaxing into pain/discomfort
learning how to differentiate between an unpleasant bodily sensation and the experience of discomfort and how to distance from and relax into it, changing the experience

Week 4: Releasing difficult thoughts
becoming able to locate a thought in the body as physical tension and soothe it using breath and visualisations

Next Course Begins On Sunday 23rd October at 6.30pm

Ivana Demmel.

Ivana is a yoga and mindfulness teacher and mum to two tiny people who make her learn something new every day. She is grateful to have studied with many wonderful teachers in India, UK and back in Serbia, her home country, and has nearly 1200 hours of yoga training focusing mostly on classical yoga philosophy. Ivana teaches slow, flowing classes playing a lot with breath and mindfulness of the body, so the movement becomes a moving meditation. Her classes draw inspiration from the years of her dedicated regular yoga and meditation practice. In the last two years her passion for movement extended to somatics, structural integration and dance. She also started diving deeper into the science of movement, learning physics, biomechanics and kinesiology. Ivana is passionate about natural, real-world movement, barefoot walking and green living and you can usually find her singing on her family tricycle.

Jo Rudolphy.

Jo is a local resident who lives on the Haringay Ladder. A mum of three Jo completed her teacher training with Yogacampus at the well established ‘Life Centre’ and she has studied with Roy Stryker, Matthew Sanford and is a devotee of Doug Keller. Jo takes our Beginners Yoga 6 Week Courses.

Jo’s philosophy is practicing yoga is not about getting good at yoga, but about getting good at life.

Our Yoga for Beginners Course is ideal for anyone who would like to gain a strong understanding on the elements of Yoga including Pranayama ( breathing) as well as Asanas( poses). Jo leads a 4 week ‘Strong Foundations’ Course in which the principles of Yoga are taught each week. Practise with confidence. Mats are provided.

Followed by longer held Restorative postures using bolsters, activating the parasympathetic nervous system or rest and digest. A class involving both dynamic and restful yoga – a great mid week treat for busy Londoners!

Stillness and Movement – meditation sessions facilitated by Ilana Gorban

Weekly sessions of guided meditation.
We are familiar with how to keep our bodies functioning well and looking good. Are we as skilled, however, when it comes to the mind? Meditation is a method to train one’s mind gradually. The aim is to become more skilled so that we can make positive choices directly influencing our wellbeing.
In these meetings we will cultivate a mind that has two qualities: stability and clarity. We will practice different guided meditations, participate in pair and group discussions, and experience different types of positive mental attitudes that contribute to our physical and emotional wellbeing.

Mental attitudes that we are going to cultivate on this meetings:
Session one: beginner’s mind
Session two: non-striving
Session three: patience
Session four: trust

All are welcome, no previous meditation experience is required.
