About Vinyasa Krama Yoga with Steven
Vinyasa Krama Yoga is a classical Hatha yoga practice based on the teachings of Srivatsa Ramaswami & his over 30yrs of direct study with Sri T Krishnamacharaya.
It uses a series of flowing postures (vinyasas) synchronised with slow,smooth breathing. The postures are sequenced in progressive steps(Krama) which makes it possible for anyone to begin at any level and make progress in a safe and enjoyable way.
Postures(asanas) are practised with repetitive movements as well as staying in a position for a period of time, but the emphasis is always on maintaining slow comfortable breathing so that the functional benefits of the posture are obtained without forcing the body. With regular practice the body releases its old patterns of tension and dysfunctional movement and becomes steady and comfortable in the classic posture.
After asana practice each class includes an introduction to breathing exercise (pranayama) which help to calm and relax the mind further and prepare the mind for meditation. There will be a short meditative period at the end to give a well rounded authentic hatha yoga practice.
