Come and experience the joy of Kundalini Yoga, known as 'The Yoga of Awareness' as taught by Yogi Bhajan who brought it to the West in 1968 and taught it openly for the first time in history. For thousands of years it had been a practice taught exclusively by master to student in India, mainly to rulers and sages.
He felt that it was the time to make this wonderful yoga available to everyone.
Kundalini Yoga is for Everyone. You do not need previous experience in yoga to experience the benefits of this yoga.
Kundalini yoga works on strengthening the nervous system and the glandular system (which is often referred to as the 'guardians of health'), and helps to strengthen the circulatory system and energetic pathways of the body. It helps promote feelings of well-being, balance and self-awareness.
An ancient and fast working powerful yoga to help give you vitality, balance, and the ability to remain calm through life's challenges.
The class starts with a warm up, a mantra to tune in and then pranayam (breath techniques), a kirya meaning 'action' which consists of asanas (set of sequenced postures each practised for a set amount of time - usually a few mins) with some mantras (chants) and using mudras (hand gestures), and meditation. Then we tune out with a chant.
The kriyas target the emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of ourselves and every week there will be a different kriya.
There is also beautiful gentle kundalini music played during the class.
Kundalini Class at The Yogashed is Monday evenings at 6.30pm - 8.00pm.
