About Yoga with…â„¢ Dorothy

Dorothy he first approached yoga in 2006 at the Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga Centre in Hong Kong, where she learnt Raja yoga meditation and the philosophy of spirituality. Dorothy has practised Hatha, Forrest, Jivamukti and Ashtanga Yoga on a regular basis since then. In 2010, Dorothy completed the Yoga Alliance Teacher Training at Yoga Limbs Hong Kong under the guidance of Wanda and Dennis Hewitt. She was taught extensively the Iyengar principles which hugely influence in her teaching style.

After moving to Australia in 2010, she decided to pass on her knowledge and personal experience to the growing yoga community, teaching Hatha Yoga at various health and sports centres, as well as rehabilitation centre in Melbourne. In 2011, she had a great opportunity to teach at jonetsuYoga Centre in Nagoya, Japan. It was during this transient and demanding period of her “constant on-the-go” life that she and her husband had of moving around the world to different countries that she found her sanctuary in Ashtanga Yoga. She continued her daily Mysore practice of the Ashtanga Intermediate Series under the guidance of Cheuk Na at Yoga Mala in Hong Kong where the couple stayed for 2 months, preparing for another move back to the UK.

Despite being a devotee of Ashtanga Yoga, she believes that the dynamics of the asana practice in various styles ultimately brings us all back to the essence of Yoga – the connection with the supreme Self, the non-duality of Oneness. She humbly invites all fellow yoga practitioners to bring the true manifestation of yoga (the Eight Limbs from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras) to the world with passion and remembrance of our true Guru.

Her classes shed light on body alignments, the synchronization of movements and free breathing, drishti (sight or gaze), as well as mindfulness. Challenging as some may say, she always reminds students of the true reason to be on the mat – to feel good about being present! The classes are imbued with personal inspiration, awareness of the mind and most importantly laughter and fun. Dorothy is here to take students to a journey of both physical health and spiritual healing. Her classes are Hatha Yoga based, blending challenging postures and proper breathing technique with total relaxation and positive thinking. The classes provide you a sanctuary to embrace inner peace and kindle all-good emotions. You will have a deeper understanding of the physical body and beyond, the meaning of mindfulness and the quality of self-realisation.

Classes are open to all levels, whether you are new and want to get to grips with the basics or if you’re already comfortable with the foundations and want to deepen your practice.
