Sivananda yoga is a branch of hatha yoga. In comparison to other types of yoga, Sivananda yoga is a less physically demanding form of exercise. It gently awakens the muscles using the breath to help guide the body without straining. There is a slower pace to the classes compared to Ashtanga yoga. Postures are held for various lengths of time, working towards holding the postures for longer and developing each asana. This allows the breath to help guide and relax the muscles whilst strengthening, lengthening and improving overall flexibility.
Within a few classes you should be able to feel the difference in your body, being more physically aware, building strength and fitness. Yoga is transformational, giving mental clarity and more energy along with a positive attitude.
