About Sharon Cannon Yoga

Offering Trauma Informed Group Classes and Private Tuition.

My classes are grounding, authentic and welcoming, with different practices offered to suit a range of needs.

Yoga meets you exactly where you are.

I take special considerations to create a supportive space which includes empowerment based language, integration of choices and skilfully blend movement, breath, thematic exploration, yogic philosophy and affirmations.

I assume there is always trauma in the room, I teach in a way that is sensitive to trauma no matter who shows up, I strive to ensure that my classes are accessible by guiding people to work within their own range of motion and teaching poses, movements, and ways of breathing that are accessible, slow, and facilitate calmness, but also structure classes to allow space for intuitive movement. I encourage clients to be the experts of their bodies and experiences and regularly remind participants of their personal agency and options available for positioning their bodies, moving, breathing, and where they place their attention.
I use language of enquiry to encourage students to explore movement and stillness as it feels suitable to where they’re at and avoid language that creates hierarchy.
I encourage my clients to meet their feelings and experiences with compassion and be exactly where they are, there is no right or wrong and I meet the whole person in front of me in the present moment with the same compassion and care.
I aim to be sensitive to stimulation & minimise re-triggering with awareness to sounds, aromas, textures, and touch by using low ambient music or no music, no scents, calming lights, managing the tone of my voice and providing details on what to expect from the class so there are no surprises along the way.
I refrain from hands-on assists for the most part, there are exceptions in some yoga focused classes but I only ever use touch with full permission and clear, supportive purpose.

Private Tuition ~
Everyone's experience with, and reasons for coming to yoga are unique, so should be the approach to treat your body.
One to one yoga classes are a great way to develop a deeper understanding of yourself, your body, all aspects of yoga and philosophy.
I specialise in Trauma Informed Yoga to support you on your healing & wellness journey.
Each session is customised to meet you where you are, through trauma sensitive practice you will be guided to explore your body on your own terms, exactly as it is in an inclusive accessible and integrative approach that includes centering exercises, discussion, gentle movement, breathing practices, yoga philosophies, and goal setting to foster healing, finding safety and freedom within to provide a foundation for trauma healing, eating disorder recovery and mental health clarity.
Yoga can be a wonderful complement to your work with a therapist, dietician, and other care providers.
