I teach vinyasa yoga, based on the Baptiste Journey into Power sequence, which is based on Ashtanga, Iyengar and Vinyasa yoga. The physical practice focuses on different areas of the body to improve strength and flexibility and balance. I encourage the use of pranayama (breath control) to move positive energy around the body, the engagement of bandhas—body locks to strengthen the core muscles—and Drishti (gaze) to help focus one’s mind to improve concentration.
Power Vinyasa Yoga provides a holistic practice and is accessible to all through modifications. The emphasis is on the individual to learn how their body is feeling and transferring this to their asana which can be modified or added to. Each time you come onto your mat your body will feel different, so it’s important to recognise this and learn to tune into it.
My regular weekly classes encourage each individual to find their own edge through the meditative flow of the Vinyasa. Each practice ends with Savasana to allow the body and mind to totally relax.
