I teach Power Vinyasa Yoga, based on the Baptiste Journey into Power, which is based mainly on Ashtanga, Iyengar and Vinyasa yoga. The physical practice is from a foundational sequence which is divided into groups of poses (asanas). Each group focuses on different areas of the body to improve strength and flexibility, others help with balance. It also uses pranayama (breath control) to move positive energy around the body, incorporates the engagement of bandhas—body locks which strengthen the core muscles—and dristhi (gaze) to help focus one’s mind to improve concentration.
Power Vinyasa Yoga provides a holistic practice and through modifications is accessible to all. The emphasis is on the individual to learn how their body is feeling in the present moment and transferring this to the asana which can be modified or added to. Each time you come onto your mat your body will feel different, so it’s important to learn to tune into this.
