About Cathy’s Yoga for pregnancy, birth and beyond

Offering a range of yoga classes for women across life transitions. Sessions are currently a mixture of face to face and online (via Zoom). Yoga for Pregnancy, Perinatal Yoga, Fertility Yoga, Yoga for the Menopause, Well Woman Yoga and Mother & Baby Yoga…safe, supportive and nurturing yoga sessions suitable for all levels of experience.

Yoga for Pregnancy:
These very popular classes are suitable from 12 weeks onwards – no need to have done yoga before. Gentle yoga stretches, breathing & relaxation techniques plus time to discuss various topics about pregnancy, labour, birth and early postnatal period.

The aim for these classes is for you to have an enjoyable and relaxing time, whilst improving both your physical and emotional well being and your chances of having a positive birth experience. Women who do Yoga For Pregnancy classes report improved sleep, reduced aches and pains, increased flexibility, improved posture and greater body awareness – thereby building their confidence in themselves and their bodies.

For those who are already mothers, the class is a time to relax, concentrate on the new baby, and prepare for this birth. For first time mothers, there will be lots of practical tips, opportunity to meet others and ask questions. Perhaps most importantly you can make new and lasting friendships.

Birthlight Mother & Baby Yoga:
Birthlight Mother & Baby Yoga uses original sets of yoga practices, many of which are now mainstream, that are uniquely suited to help you regain your core-strength, your figure, emotional well-being and overall fitness after birth by restoring tone to the deep muscles of the pelvis and lower back. They can be started at any time after birth (1:1 at home in the first 6-8 weeks and at Bromham Social Centre following your 6-week postnatal check). We work towards ‘closing’ the body, re-knitting abdominal muscles and building strength and stamina. Mother & Baby Yoga sessions use Pranayama (yoga breathing), helping to keep you calm, inducing deeper sleep and reducing postnatal fatigue. These practices are suitable for women however their babies have been born. Attendees will create a new foundation for better physical and emotional well-being at the same time as being energised from within. Babies are included within the class with specific songs, rhymes and play as appropriate. Mums enjoy the chance to have protected 1:1 time with their baby, improving bonding and helping their babies development. More dynamic yoga postures are gradually incorporated to make a safe transition to general yoga or other forms of exercise with long term benefits for women’s health.

Well Woman Yoga:

Are you tired, stressed out or dreading times of hormonal upheaval? Maybe you are looking for a safe and peaceful, nurturing space that offers time for self-exploration and gentle exercise.
Birthlight certified Well Woman Yoga practitioners offer classes and one-to-one sessions to address body and mind together at all stages of women’s reproductive cycle and beyond. They are women only classes catering for individual needs related to reproductive health, before conception, between pregnancies, during the menopause or whenever women are drawn to nurture themselves in a more attentive way.
Well Woman Yoga draws on the ancient Indian health system of Ayurveda and offers selected yoga resources to promote mental and physical balance and a feeling of calm vitality. This is the key to a stress free and healthy new you. Through its known effects on the neuroendocrine system yoga helps stabilise hormonal levels and creates new foundations for emotional stability besides physical benefits including improved blood circulation, postural alignment. muscle tone and balance. Practices are easy to follow for women of all ages, from beginners to the most experienced yoga practitioners. All classes include relaxation, breathing practices and cultivate calm, balanced energy and vitality, detoxify the body and promote a sense of inner peace.
Birthlight uses specially adapted classic yoga practices to help all women to relax in the enjoyment of simple movements and breath awareness. Overall wellbeing is enhanced and specific conditions can be alleviated by stimulating the body’s own natural healing resources. Recent research shows that anxiety and back pain respond well to simple yoga exercise programmes and Well Woman Yoga practitioners are trained to tailor these yoga practices to meet individual needs.

I have attended this class during both my pregnancies. I found the yoga really helped with my SPD, and was the one chance each week for me to relax and concentrate on myself and my bump. The breathing exercises really helped my with my homebirths. I recommend this class to all my pregnant friends 🙂

I attended the Holistic Birth prep yoga class run by Cathy Welch as a second time mum to be. The class consists of yoga, breathing, and relaxation. Plus the added benefit of sharing experiences with other local women and making friends. The gentle yoga exercises kept me supple and Cathy was even able to adapt many of the exercises to allow me to complete them with very uncomfortable SPD which was great. The breathing and relaxation element of the class was a very enjoyable and provided a way to allow me to really prepare for the birth. All in all-… Read more »

I attended Carhy Welch’s yoga class from 17 weeks pregnant to delivery. I hadn’t done yoga before and it was my first pregnancy so I was unsure what to expect, but I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Cathy’s knowledgeable and gentle approach made me feel like I was in safe hands, and the group was very welcoming. Several of the women were attending the classes for their second or third time, and I’ll certainly plan to go again if I have another baby. The yoga exercises were great for helping to keep my body supple during pregnancy and… Read more »
