Kind Heart Yoga with Ruth
Yoga Teacher in Daventry, Northamptonshire
Hi – if you’re reading this, hopefully it’s because you’re looking for a yoga class and a teacher whose style you’ll enjoy. I teach a weekly class in Badby, just outside Daventry, and in Houlton, between Rugby and Daventry. I also enjoy teaching private students one to one or as small groups. I love to help people find their confidence, sometimes regaining strength, flexibility and mobility, and of course the peacefulness that comes from practicing yoga.
I have been teaching since 2022, having studied a 300 hour teaching certificate at Whitespace Yoga Studio with Deborah Berryman and Dawn Wright. Since then I have completed studies in yin yoga, yoga nidra, simple vinyasa, pranayama and somatics.
I teach in Badby, near Daventry, on Thursday evenings from 630pm to 730pm, and also Wednesday mornings at 930am, in The Barn, at Houlton, between Daventry and Rugby.
My style is mainly hatha, with flow, yin and some somatics so you can really get the most from this beautiful practice of getting to know yourself better and focusing on all-round wellbeing. In longer sessions I also share nidra as a beautiful way to relax and find calmness.
Each class is an invitation to breathe deeply, forget any tensions and enjoy the feel of yoga through your body. This is time for you to step away from the busyness of day to day life, give yourself time to undo any knots and niggles in your body, and restore your energy levels.
I also offer half / whole day retreats during the weekends, and overnight / weekend retreats in the UK. All are designed to provide gentle relaxation, movement, meditation and good food in kind company. When I can, I include nature walks and open water swimming as an option, as I am a great advocate for getting out in nature, and swimming. I enjoy collaborating with other local, likeminded holistic therapists, to offer massage and facial treatments, other energy practices such as Tai Chi and reiki, and sound healing journeys.
All my classes are small, friendly and accessible, but please note that you need to be able to get up and down from the floor (not necessarily fast) to get the most from the class. Beginners are welcome, but if you’re a complete beginner, why not have a one to one or small group session first, to give you a feel for some basics?
If you have them, please bring a mat, cushion, small blanket and a strap (a dressing gown belt is suitable if you don’t have an exercise strap). I have a few mats and straps I can lend you for the class if you don’t have one.
If private classes or daytime classes are of interest, please contact me to discuss this in more detail.
Full details of my classes and courses are on my booking site:
If you have any questions please do contact me on 07591 166551 ruthmackman@btinternet.com.
I also have a Facebook page, where I talk about the things I find interesting about yoga, classes and specials, and my other line of work as a celebrant.

Just wanted to say ‘Thank you’ so much Ruth
Your half day retreat in August was prefect … Everything from the yoga itself, to the delicious food was so well thought out
A great deal of time and attention was spent in making us feel so relaxed, which completely indulged all our senses
I totally reset from being a stress head to chillaxed lady ️Particularly when I floated out of the door
hi Stevie, I was so pleased you were able to come to this event. I’m delighted your back approved, and you enjoyed the morning. Would be lovely to see you again. Ruth x
Fantastic half day yoga retreat with Ruth on Saturday was just what I needed. My back feels so lovely today and it was a chance to spend some ‘me’ time, as well as visit a new village and meet lovely people. Thank you.
Thank you Ruth for continually encouraging me to practice more. Your classes and perfectly balanced at at a level I can feel comfortable while still being challenged. Your classes always make me feel so relaxed and I am getting stronger, more grounded and balanced than at any time in my 71 years..
hi Wendy, thank you – great that you can find the balance between feeling strong and a little bit challenged when you want to be, and being relaxed. Lovely to have you in class x
ah, thank you Katie … it was a pleasure having you in class, and so lovely to hear that you and baby enjoyed the classes before he was born. Finding some time for yourself is so important, and I’m pleased that you found some calm in my class. x
Yes, I know you struggled with “getting it”, and switching off isn’t your natural choice, so it’s been lovely to see you relaxing into the asanas, not being so competitive with yourself, and even enjoying savasana! thank you
ah thank you Jenny, you’re right, yoga is great for us at any age, it’s a shame lots of people don’t find it till they’re older. But it’s lovely teaching you, and hearing that you feel so much better as a result.
ah, thank you Siobhan. it’s lovely being able to play around with different options and find things that work for individual students. yes, the bolster is a game changer. Always lovely to have you in class. thank you
hi Alex, thank you. It’s a pleasure to teach you, even though it’s online it’s really important to get the basics right, and it’s been fun exploring the use of the bolster!
Ruth is such a lovely yoga teacher, so welcoming and immediately puts you at ease with her warm and friendly nature.
The classes are always so enjoyable, never any pressure, you can work at your own pace but Ruth is always there to guide you and give advice.
I always come away feeling relaxed but stronger in my mind and body.
Thank you Ruth.
Ruth is a brilliant yoga teacher, so lovely, warm and welcoming. I always feel at ease during her classes, no pressure, no worries – just lovely poses and stretches which I can choose to ramp up or tone down (Ruth is great at tailoring everything to our needs and abilities, especially so when I was pregnant last year). I really appreciate the friendly, no-judgement atmosphere and feel lucky to have Ruth’s classes so local to me. I leave feeling relaxed and calm in mind and more comfortable in body – absolutely recommend Kind Heart Yoga with Ruth!
I’d tried yoga before and found it hard to ‘get it’.
Ruth’s knowledge, enthusiasm and encouragement have helped me to enjoy the time to stretch, switch off and relax.
If you’re a beginner or more experienced, Ruth’s takes time to make sure she provides the right level for everyone.
Ruth is an amazing yoga teacher. I’m a more mature lady and find Ruth’s classes invaluable in keeping my body supple and my mind at peace. Highly recommend Ruth to both young and old.
Ruth puts so much thought and preparation into her classes, nothing is just thrown together! She has a real knack of explaining a pose or a flow so that its possible to follow it with your eyes closed …although I can’t close my eyes and balance at the same time ….yet. I first came to Ruth’s classes about 15 months ago , I couldn’t even sit on the floor in easy pose. She showed me that you don’t need to sit cross legged on the floor to achieve it so I bring my trusty bolster to class and this has revolutionised my practice. I find a comfortable seat and drop into the breath work at the start of the class like I’m relaxing in a bubble bath. Even on days I don’t feel like going I go because I always leave feeling better . Thanks Ruth x
thank you Diane, I’m so pleased you took the plunge and came along, as I know it can be quite daunting to start with. It’s been a pleasure sharing the practice with you, seeing you find your way into the poses, and I’m so pleased to hear that you feel better for the practice. Thank you for taking the time to review my class.
Ruth is the most wonderful yoga teacher! As a beginner myself I was quite apprehensive to start, but she helped guide me through each position and made sure I was at ease. I feel such a benefit to both mind and body after a session on the mat with Ruth
Ruth is a very friendly and welcoming yoga instructor. Her classes always make me feel so relaxed but like I am getting stronger and more grounded at the same time too. I’m very glad I joined 🙂
I started to attend Ruth’s yoga due to struggling with pain and not having the best movement in my joints for a very long time which was getting worse. I was told that it could help. Well l have been going about 5 weeks now and although l am not very flexible and l do struggle to do some of the moves, l am feeling the benefits already. l feel like l am standing taller and my movement is improving. Thank you Ruth for the very warm welcome and making me feel like l can do it. l am loving it x
thank you Trish, I’m really pleased you’re enjoying class and feeling the benefit
