About Josetta Yoga

About Josetta

Background:

Josetta grew up around the docks of Southampton, the child of a Jamaican docks worker and an English medical secretary. She spent her youth in different parts of South West England including Bristol and Cornwall. It is in Cornwall that she discovered her passion for yoga and enjoyed learning and practicing on beautiful Cornish beaches. She lived, for a period in Brighton where she trained and worked in the Mental Health sector, before moving to Walthamstow in East London where she has now settled. She loves to practice yoga in the local parks and on Walthamstow and Tottenham Marshes.

Yoga experience:

Josetta has been practising Ashtanga for 13 years and is a qualified teacher, accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga. She has been lucky enough to study under some of the top international teachers; Manju Jois (son of Pattabhis Jois, who founded and developed Ashtanga), Nancy Gilgoff and John Scott.

Josetta has taught and practiced in Goa, Berlin, Cornwall, Brighton and London. She holds a British Wheel of Yoga Diploma so is fully qualified and insured to teach generic yoga posture classes as well as Ashtanga yoga.. She has completed Primary Adjustment courses with Manju Jois and Nancy Gilgoff. She has also completed several post diploma courses ranging from teaching athletes and sports people to teaching people with ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

She is dedicated to equalities and inclusion and often runs classes for marginalised groups for instance, she successfully ran Queer Yoga classes in Brighton for some time and has recently set up low cost classes for LGBT people (and allies/friends) in London. She is particularly interested in teaching yoga to individuals and communities that find it hard to access mainstream yoga studios and gyms. She sees yoga as a tool for better mental and physical health and believes that everyone can benefit with the right support and guidance.

She specialises in beginners and improvers classes as well as one-to-ones. She comes with a portfolio of recommendations and is known as an approachable and supportive teacher.
