About Yoga With Daljit

My yoga journey started in the early 90's when I joined a local class and found that practising yoga was life changing. I chose to start living more holistically, integrating health and well-being with mind and body.

I qualified as a yoga teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga (recognised by Sport England as the governing body for Yoga in Great Britain) and have been teaching weekly Hatha Yoga classes since 2006, promoting a safe and nurturing environment that encourages self-discovery and non-competitiveness.

Since completing my teaching diploma I have continued my professional development and my own yoga practice with attending a wide range of workshops with various teachers, I have been inspired by my teachers Angie Blowers, Gillian Russel and Scaravelli inspired yoga teachers Louise Simmons and Bill Wood.

I also gained my Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) and Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).

Teaching a range of students with differing needs has enhanced my skills of assessing the needs of each individual student, and adapting course content and delivery style to meet these needs.

A particularly challenging but rewarding community project I worked on was a course entitled the Skills for Healthy Living. I was one of three tutors who were involved with supporting individuals from deprived areas to take control of their lives, increase skills, confidence, and knowledge to live a healthy life. Some had mental health needs e.g. bipolar or depression, some had learning difficulties/disabilities e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia and Asperger's and some had physical illnesses such as cancer, osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis. I developed my own skills and introduced people to the benefits of yoga.

I have completed a BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy. Occupational Therapy is understanding how to empower people with meaningful occupations and how if we carefully structure things we do, review lifestyle choices, and address barriers to participation, engagement in occupation can improve a persons health and well-being.

As an Occupational therapist I will be working with a diverse range of people to help them overcome the effects of disability caused by physical or psychological illness, ageing or accident. My aim will be to understand each persons requirements and lifestyle so that I can create the best treatment plan for them.

In combination, Occupational Therapy and Yoga address the physical, functional and environmental need to increase strength and function. The yoga will aim to address the structural, and the Occupational Therapy will address the environmental factors and physical barriers.

Yoga has been life enhancing for me, it's such an ancient discipline, yet so simple, anyone can do it. I can't imagine my life without yoga. I want to share this with others through my teaching.
