About Birch Tree Yoga Studio

” After years of teaching yoga in dusty , draughty halls & noisy gyms, it was my ambition to provide a beautiful purpose built studio dedicated to teaching yoga in this area !”     K.P.

This ambition was fulfilled in 2008 when Karen left her job as a PE teacher in a large comprehensive school and opened Birch Tree Yoga Studio . Now, over 12 years later ,the Studio is still going strong despite many more Studios popping up in the area. It offers 9 classes a week, Saturday workshops and CPD training days for other yoga teachers. Maximum class size  (Pre COVID) was 12, comfortably- not squashed in, which is still small enough to allow for personal attention , but also large enough to create great group energy.*

Karen teaches this ancient Eastern discipline with a modern Western approach & a lively sense of humour,  her style is a fusion of Hatha / Vinyasa flow yoga.Karen’s background knowledge of many other disciplines compliments the teaching and her passion shines through .

*Until the Studio can re-open, Karen offers Online classes via a Facebook group £10 per calendar month. The Studio will commence "in person "classes, in the garden & studio whenever it is permitted.

Qualifications : B.ED Phys. ED. University of Sussex
FRYOG International Yoga diploma / Yoga Alliance Senior Teacher

I’ve been going to Karen’s beautiful studio for a year or so now. I have attended classes elsewhere, but nowhere quite so serene and clearly focused on providing a perfect environment for yoga. Its quite possibly the most uplifting and relaxing 2 hours of my week!
Karen guides students through the physical and spiritual practice, encouraging each student to build steadily towards improving their own practice at their own pace. Now after a year, I am stronger, more flexible, even slightly thinner maybe, and I probably smile more than I once did!

I have been going to Birch Tree Yoga since it opened and would not hesitate to recommend it! The classes are great – always stimulating and challenging, but also relaxing and fun – and I always leave feeling energised and uplifted and that I have had a really good workout. The studio is lovely and it is so nice to go somewhere purpose built for yoga in the countryside rather than in a noisy gym. The peace and tranquillity of the setting outside adds to the ambience in. Quite frankly I could not survive without my twice weekly fix!

I’ve been going to Karen’s yoga classes for over a year now and LOVE them! Karen’s a very experienced teacher and able to teach a class that covers beginners through to intermediate/advanced. They’re always different, with a theme that reflects the time of year and focus on a different part of the body. Karen’s classes are held at her home in a purpose built yoga studio which are always a great temperature. Karen provides her own mats, blankets, eye pillows, straps etc. but you can take your own too if you like. Classes have no more than 12 people at… Read more »

I started as a complete beginner with Karen 2 years ago and have enjoyed weekly classes since then – I wish I had time to go more often. I have found it to be of huge benefit to my physical fitness and flexibility – I have even managed to stand up on my surfboard again after struggling for a few years with stiffness in my hips and knees. I have also found it to be greatly beneficial in helping me deal with the stresses of my work as a hospital doctor. Karen has a very calming voice and usually ends… Read more »

I have been attending Birch tree Yoga classes for the last 3 years. I used to live locally, I have now moved away but still attend, which I think speaks volumes about Karen and the studio.
I love my, rarely missed, weekly classes. The studio is set in an amazingly relaxing environment and the teacher, Karen, is calming and easily understood to both beginners and more experienced yogi’s.
I have taken visiting family members to classes to and they thoroughly enjoyed the sessions.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this Yoga Studio to anyone of any ability.
